Sixteen-year old Lee Ellen Stace went missing after finishing her shift at a Yamba supermarket on the 2nd of September 1997. Six weeks later her dismembered remains were found in a shallow grave by campers in the Yuragyir National Park. The circumstances surrounding her death are still uncertain, and it is unclear whether or not she was hitchhiking at the time of her disappearance. While investigators could not establish a definite cause of death, a blood-stained timber off cuts was found near the scene, which was then established as the murder weapon. It was thus confirmed that Lee Ellen was killed by blunt force trauma.
